![]() Everyone meet Sandy! Sandy and her herdmates were rounded up in South Reno recently. Unfortunately, because these mustangs resided on state land they fall under the jurisdiction of the Nevada Department of Agriculture - not the BLM. Thus, they are not afforded the same protections as their BLM counterparts. Today, the NDA sent 25 horses to a public auction in Fallon, notorious for being a haven for "kill buyers" who buy horses for cheap and then ship them off to slaughter in Canada and Mexico... But not today! Local wild horse advocates were able to raise the money to rescue all 25 horses! And I'm pleased to announce that one anonymous donor rescued Sandy... and donated her to us to take on the Nevada Discovery Ride next year! Sandy will help ease some of the weight burden from Sage. Now, I'll be able to alternate the two as riding and pack horses. Sage will also have the comfort of another horse on our long journey! We're very excited about the development! So what's next? Well, Sandy is already lined up for training. We only have seven months to get her trail ready! So onward to training! More details to come soon!!!! |
