Greetings from Goodsprings, Nevada! Sage, Juniper, and I are 29 miles in. Doesn’t seem like much but every mile counts and they add up eventually. We’re all a little beat but doing good. Unfortunately no one really was able to get acclimated so we’re doing it as we go. We’ll have to make a few changes to the route and distances just until we get out of southern Nevada. What matters is that we are on the trail!! I am super lucky to have picked up some full time trail support for to get us up to Beatty. That is huge and will definitely help with hydrating or giving Juniper more rest days. So grateful for that help! Here are the recaps of the past couple days -
Day 1: We rode out early from the north end of Red Rock. I was joined by my bestie Jillian and BLM Wild Horse & Burro specialist Tabitha! We had good riding with the beautiful backdrop of Red Rock. We stopped at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park where I got my Nevada State Parks passport stamped. Then we were back on the trail to Blue Diamond where we stopped for a quick bite at Cottonwood Station and it was delicious!! Tabitha left us so Jillian and I finished the day ourselves. 13 miles total. The weather was perfect - not too hot! Sage and Juniper did great!
Day 2 Recap: Sage, Juniper, and I were in the saddle by dawn and got to see the sunrise on the trail. Beautiful! We headed south saying goodbye to Las Vegas which we could see in the distance. Had a pretty uneventful day riding through Joshua trees, with the exception of one big climb. We found water about halfway through the day which was a nice treat. It definitely got warm so I made sure to stop every mile to give Juniper some water. We made it 16 miles today to end in the town of Goodsprings!! Tonight we’re staying with a host and will get to check out the world famous Pioneer Saloon!
Back at it again tomorrow!
