Sage found his street on a recent ride!
We're just about 30 days out from the start of the ride! We're all getting very anxious to finally get on the trail. It's been very busy these last few months. Just when I think I'm done buying supplies, I think of something else we need! We probably have enough gear to ride across the whole country now!!
Sage and I are very busy riding, but we're also making time for outreach opportunities. This weekend we spent the entire day at Reno's Rancho San Rafael Regional Park for the "Swing into Spring with Curious George" event. The whole park was filled with booths from local organizations with activities to teach kids about the outdoors. There were gold panners, astronomers, disc golf, entomologists, and many more. Sage and I had a nice big corral right and spent the whole day representing the Wild Horse Preservation League. Around 1,800 people came to the park during the day. I don't know how many came to see us -- but it certainly felt like a lot! The fence around Sage was pretty much surrounded with kids all day. He was so patient, even when the kids were shrieking in his face. He let hundreds of kids pet him from 9am to 5pm. That is a very long day and a lot of stimulation for one horse. But that's why he is such a great ambassador for wild horses. I talked to many, many people about wild horses and mustang adoption. I can't even count how many people told me they love to see wild horses.
We've got some post-ride public appearances planned already, including the Art Paws event on July 21. If you are in the region, please come by to say hello to Sage, Bella, and I at McKinley Park in Reno.
In the immediate future, we've got lots of riding planned in the weeks ahead. Next weekend we're doing a lot of riding and camping with the road crew to practice. Look for photos and updates here, and on our facebook page!
Lastly, our donation and raffle page is now live on the site and we've already received several donations. Thank you so much to everyone for your early support. This ride isn't about fame and glory or recognition for myself... it's about raising awareness of wild horses and encouraging adoption. So if you haven't already, will you please spread the word about the ride through your friends and family? Don't forget 100% of the proceeds go to the Wild Horse Preservation League.
