![]() Descending Toll Road We're off and riding! With less than 80 days to go until the big ride, Sage, Bella, and I are doing as many training rides as we can. The temperatures have been so high in Reno so far this month, so we're trying to head out as early as possible. But I've already suffered a few sun burns, and Bella fell out from one ride and had to be carried home on the saddle! Teaching Bella to balance on the saddle (in case of an emergency) has gone well, but it did lead to an accident on the trail this week. Bella tried to jump off Sage as I tried to get into the saddle - that annoyed Sage, who bucked us both to the ground. I injured my knee enough that I got an x-ray just in case. Luckily, it turned out not to be fractured or broken. So, now we're planning some longer test rides. On June 28th and 29th, Sage, Bella, and I will ride from Reno to Virginia City. It's about 15 miles, but with some serious elevation gain. We'll spend the night and then ride back the next day. You can expect lots of photos! We're also planning another, longer, test ride for early July. Dates to be announced, but it will be a two-day, 35 mile ride from Washoe Lake up Jumbo Grade to Virginia City and back down. Riding up to Virginia City is great training because it's so steep and rocky on most routes. Other than riding, we're still accumulating supplies and gear. Many, many thanks to Barbara Maat who sent us a generous donation to help. Barbara is an author from Colorado, best known for her book chronicling her solo walk along the Donner Trail. She's a kindred spirit on the trail of adventure! You can find out more about her book on our sponsor page! Comments are closed.
