Training

Now Accepting Winter 2025/2026 Clients

We are now booking at our winter ranch
in Sandy Valley, Nevada - just 45 minutes outside Las Vegas.

Trail Horse Training

Arena miles are good, but trail miles make the horse! Unfortunately, not everyone has the time or ability to put training miles on their horse. This winter we are excited to announce a special training program designed by Nevada's trail expert, Samantha Szesciorka - founder of Nevada Horse Trails and the long-distance rider behind the Nevada Discovery Ride.

Using gentle and patient methods, Samantha helps horses progress at their own pace to build trust, resilience, and readiness for any trail.

We provide real world experience and real trail adventures to help each horse:
• Gain confidence in new environments
• Improve mobility, stamina, and conditioning
• Get valuable exposure to obstacles, wildlife, bicycles, dogs, saddlebags, and more
• Develop soft responsiveness and partnership under saddle

Each horse's customized training and conditioning plan is tailored to their personality, fitness level, and your goals. You get regular updates, photos, and video progress reports. Space is limited for individualized attention. Only a couple horses accepted per month!

This is a thoughtful, hands-on program for horses who need more trail experience, conditioning, or confidence.

Who is this for?

  • Horses needing more exposure before becoming reliable trail partners
  • Horses coming back into work and needing conditioning
  • Endurance or competitive prospects needing miles
  • Any horse needing confidence outside the arena

The Facility

Sandy Valley Ranch is a full-service working ranch with top-notch training facilities and miles of open riding. Horses have safe and comfortable accommodations, including a 12x20 covered stall, high quality hay, fresh water, daily cleaning, and turnout.

Availability & Rates

Limited spots are available each month to ensure quality, individualized attention. The winter training season is January through April at Sandy Valley Ranch.

All horses and riders are unique, and so is every training plan. I keep things simple with one flat monthly rate that includes full care board, personalized training, and consistent communication. Each horse receives a customized trail training and conditioning plan based on their age, temperament, and goals. Some need more confidence and groundwork; others are ready to start logging miles out on the trail. Either way, every horse gets the time and attention it takes to become calm, capable, and conditioned.

$1,500/month - All inclusive
  • Full care board at Sandy Valley Ranch
  • Minimum two month commitment for real, lasting progress
  • Limited number of horses at a time for quality, individualized attention
  • Training schedule of 4-5 days per week with a mix of trail work, conditioning, and groundwork
  • Regular updates, photos, and video progress reports for owners
  • Visit the ranch anytime

All horses begin with a two-week assessment period to establish their training plan and pace. If a horse needs more foundational work than expected, I'll discuss the plan and timeline with you before moving forward.

About Your Trainer

Picture
I've ridden tens of thousands of Nevada's backcountry, from Reno to Elko to Las Vegas and everywhere in between, learning what it takes to make a solid trail horse.

Through Nevada Horse Trails I've helped riders discover and explore new places safely. Through the Nevada Discovery Ride I've ridden solo across the entire state... three times! I bring that same experience and patience to every horse I train, using gentle methods that prioritize partnership over pressure.
